Insulation Coordination and Power System Transients
Insulation coordination is the process of selecting appropriate voltage withstand levels for electrical equipment based on the steady-state, temporary, and transient overvoltages that may occur in a power system. Overvoltages arise from phenomena such as switching operations, faults, lightning strikes, and other system disturbances. The objective of insulation coordination is to minimize the risk of insulation failure by aligning equipment dielectric strength with expected electrical stresses and by applying effective overvoltage mitigation measures, including surge arresters, switching strategies, design solutions, and operational constraints. This course provides a comprehensive introduction to power system transient overvoltages and insulation coordination in high-voltage transmission and distribution systems. Participants will learn about the sources, characteristics, and severity of different types of overvoltages and how these phenomena are analysed using transient power system studies.
Insulation Coordination and Power System Transients is an instructor-led StratEnergy training course in the Power Transmission, Distribution & Grid Systems track.
